1,000 Pile Cloth Filters sold Worldwide: MITA WT Celebrates Milestone
An achievement that confirms the effectiveness and quality of tertiary wastewater filtration solutions: 1,000 fleece filters sold and installed globally by MITA Water Technologies. The latest order? Two horizontal-axis cloth filters supplied to a plant manufacturer in Apulia, Italy.
These state-of-the-art systems will help improve the quality of treated water to less than 10 mg/L of suspended solids as an output, once again confirming the trust of civil and industrial partners in MITA solutions.
1. The provision
The latest installation featured two MSF 4/20 PEC filters: solutions with four discs each, 20 m2 total surface area per system.
These are equipment designed to ensure high performance in tertiary filtration of wastewater. The goal of the Apulian municipal water treatment plant, term of delivery: to improve the efficiency of the purification process and ensure compliance with the required environmental standards.
With low operating costs (including very low energy use) and little civil works required for installation, the fleece filters fit perfectly into the installation context.

The result of the 1,000 installed pile cloth filters was achieved because of the tangible benefits of these solutions.
- Very high filtration yields: the free-fiber cloth makes it possible to achieve total suspended solids (STT) concentrations of less than 10 mg/l at discharge, depending on the application.
- Reduced energy consumption: filtration takes place by gravity, with energy consumption limited to the backwash phase.
- Continuity of operation: the system allows backwashing without interrupting the filtration process.
- Flexibility and management simplicity: tolerance of load fluctuations and simplified maintenance reduce operating time and costs.
- Minimum life cycle cost (LCC): filters combine low investment, operation and maintenance costs, offering an excellent return on investment.
These characteristics make them ideal not only for wastewater treatment but also for the recovery of water for industrial or agricultural uses.
3. 60 years of efficient water treatment
With more than 60 years of experience in the industry, MITA Water Technologies stands out as a benchmark in the design and construction of wastewater treatment systems. For more than two decades, the company has specialized in the manufacture of highly efficient tertiary filtration units, including the PEC and PEC VM range, designed for medium and large sized plants.
PEC cloth disc filters, in particular, combine a filtering capacity of up to 160 m² (in the largest models) with very small footprints. Their sequential backwashing system ensures operational continuity even under varying loads-an essential feature for unmanned plants.
Thanks to this unique combination of innovation and reliability, MITA Water Technologies, now part of Axius Water, continues to support industries and operators of civil sewage treatment plants worldwide, helping them achieve their sustainability and resource optimization goals.
